Understanding the Facilitators of and Barriers to Community Engagement Among Faith-Based Organizations in New York City

Wednesday, March 18 @ 4:00 pm5:30 pm
Forward in SYNChronicity for HIV Prevention

Power of Prevention

Black Health’s Outreach Enhancement: Faith Based Organization Program (OEF) collaborates with faith-based organizations across the five boroughs of New York City to provide high impact HIV prevention services in geographical hot spots in communities of color where HIV infections are most heavily concentrated (as defined by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOHMH). The integrated network of FBOs and other community partners is uniquely positioned to reach populations at highest risk within these geographic hot spots. Two mixed methods surveys were conducted with FBOs and community members to identify facilitators of and barriers to community engagement. Data from the surveys will aid in understanding challenges faced by FBOs when engaging community members, thus providing meaningful insight on how to promote effective outreach and sustainability as well as strengthen partnerships with stakeholders.
