Amber Alonzo began her work with the incarcerated population in 2015 under a New York State Department of Health, AIDS Institute (NYS DOH AI), Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS), funded program.
From there she continued her work within HIV, STI and Hepatitis C prevention through various roles from front line worker to supervisor of programs. Transitioning to the NYS DOH AIDS Institute in 2020, during a global pandemic, Amber has experienced both the micro and macro level of HIV, STI and Hepatitis C work that promotes Health Equity, stigma free care and addresses the social determinants of health.
