Ricardo A Franco, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
His interest focuses on viral hepatitis and hepatitis C elimination efforts. He has coordinated multiple public health initiatives including the Hep C Circle of Care, which resulted in infrastructure expansion of 1917 Viral Hepatitis Clinic and development of multiple collaborations with the UAB Liver Center, the Department of Emergency Medicine, UAB Charity Care, and several community partners across the State of Alabama. Dr Franco is Director of ACTIVE-C (Alabama Coalition for Testing, Interventions and Engagement in Hepatitis C Care), a statewide collaboration between UAB and several community clinics and local health departments to test and treat hepatitis C in community primary care. The impact of hepatitis C treatment scale-up in vulnerable and special populations provides relevant research platform for multiple projects that he is currently involved with. Ricardo Franco was elected Captain of IDSA Member Advocacy Program to engage and represent IDSA members to defend key IDSA priorities (including HIVMA funding matters) in legislature.
