May 30 @ 4:00 pm5:30 pm EDT

  • Early Educational Program Effects on Viral Load Suppression during Newly Diagnoses
Our clinic, servicing 2,100+ people living with HIV (PLWH) in Atlanta, aimed to develop an early, longitudinal educational program focused on various HIV-related topics for newly diagnosed PLWH. This patient-centric program is culturally and contextually tailored, evidence based and uniquely developed through the collaboration of the clinic’s Community Advisory Board (CAB), the Quality Nurse Manager, and a team of medical students. The pilot program that launched in September 2023 among a small group of PLWH, who demonstrated an increase in HIV knowledge through pre and post testing and open-ended feedback during sessions.
  • The Impact of Intimate Partner Violence on HIV Care Access
People living with HIV (PLWH) who are also experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) may face challenges with accessing and navigating HIV care services. This demographic must have access to comprehensive mental health services led by certified IPV counselors also versed in the importance of HIV care and retention and knowledgeable of the LGBTQ community. This presentation will highlight the trauma-informed care (TIC) strategies used by MarSell Wellness Center (MWC) to deconstruct barriers that hinder this marginalized group from accessing much-needed HIV care services.
