Fostering Community within the Community: The Long-Term Survivors Hub for Older Adults Living with HIV

Friday, March 20 @ 10:45 am12:15 pm
Forward in SYNChronicity for HIV Care and Treatment

There is limited programming focused on the health and wellness of long-term survivors of HIV. With people living longer and their needs shifting, the number of resources that are available and accessible to seek care or even social interactions becomes scarce. The Long-Term Survivors Hub (LTS Hub) was created to continue to nurture and foster social engagement among older adults who have lived, worked, and fought for this community. LTS Hub addresses the services gap with 1:1 engagements, workshops and social/enrichment activities for the 50 years and older living with HIV. As individuals are participating in the program’s activities, staff also actively work on building self-efficacy and facilitating linkages to other services. These components work in concert because the participants are in community with each other and encouraged to build social networks. Then, they can provide themselves with social support as well as our service support, increasing connection and retention.
