- Advocating for Trans Health Care: Empowering Providers to Combat Misinformation and Promote Inclusive Care (GLMA)
In recent years, misinformation and disinformation surrounding medical care for transgender and gender-diverse youth have proliferated, leading to harmful policy changes and restrictions on essential healthcare services. In response to this, a coalition of healthcare providers from across the country has united to advocate for the healthcare rights of transgender and gender-diverse youth. This coalition, comprised of medical professionals, nurses, doctors, and other health workers, meets regularly to discuss policy changes, shift attitudes regarding trans issues, and empower each other to find solutions. This conference session aims to shed light on the critical work of this coalition. - A Long Overdue Love Story to Black MSMs
This presentation provides culturally significant alternatives for addressing the epidemic of HIV amongst black MSM. Not only does this presentation provide comprehensive strategies for combating HIV transmission, it also promotes healthy relationships amongst black men (MSM). - Flexing: Utilizing Social Media to Reach YMSM of Color for HIV Prevention
Young African American and Latino Men Who Have Sex with Men (YMSM) currently have the highest national HIV rates and are frequent users of social media, yet few healthcare organizations have the capacity to implement effective social media campaigns to reach these populations. The Illinois Public Health Association, experts in implementing digital technology campaigns for youth, will share successful electronic health communications/social media strategies and best practices with conference attendees to build health professionals’ competency in utilizing new technologies to reach young MSM of color with HIV prevention messaging where these young men routinely socialize.
