An Emerging Model for Advancing HIV Equity Across Marginalized Populations

Thursday, March 19 @ 4:00 pm5:30 pm
Forward in SYNChronicity for HIV Care and Treatment

This interactive session will explore a novel, community-anchored model developed by the Midwest D-CFAR Scientific Working Group to engage historically underrepresented populations in HIV research and service delivery—specifically Black-led organizations, rural communities, individuals impacted by homelessness, harm reduction practitioners, and direct service providers. Conceptually, this model centers power-sharing, equity, and community leadership as essential drivers of HIV response. Operationally, it breaks from traditional approaches by using innovative methods of engagement such as community studios, virtual learning series, peer-led events, and collaborative working groups.
The workshop will highlight both the quantitative reach—including participation metrics and geographic diversity—and the qualitative impact, drawn from real-time feedback, stories, and evaluation data. Participants will gain insight into how this model has evolved, what makes it effective, and how it can be replicated or adapted in other regions to strengthen HIV outcomes through culturally responsive, community-informed strategies.
