50 Shades Un-Greyed: Sex-Positive Care & Exploring Biases in BDSM Healthcare
This workshop will look at the intersectionality of STI, HIV, and Hepatitis C education and prevention, while simultaneously SYNCing the impact of healthcare bias on the sexual health needs of people who practice BDSM/Kink, a community that is often overlooked or misunderstood. Attendees will explore historical examples, basic terminology of BDSM and address misconceptions regarding BDSM/Kink to better help providers better navigate conversations regarding STI, HIV and Hep C prevention and education. Attendees will also examine personal biases regarding BDSM/Kink and learn evidence-based strategies to cultivate inclusive healthcare practices when delivering services.
Patients and Polyamory: Clinical Considerations for Working with Consensual Non-Monogamy and Polyamory
This presentation will address the topic areas of: LGBTQ Health and Wellness, STI and HIV Prevention, Mental Health, Minority/Underserved Communities, and Consensual Non-Monogamy (CNM). The session will explore how consensual non-monogamy and polyamory intersect with LGBTQ Health and Wellness and Minority/Underserved Communities; it will especially focus on the marginalization and stigma experienced at these intersections, suggestions for clinicians to create affirming environments within their practices, and specific clinical approaches and concepts that can be incorporated into therapeutic intervention, such as topics of sexual health, jealousy, and negotiation of relationship dynamics.
